10th October 1921

The Minister for Education authorizes the establishment of Iwate Prefectural Library

19th November 1921

The library receives a donation of 10,000 yen from Takashi Hara for book purchases

9th March 1922

The construction of the library in Uchimaru, Morioka City is completed

26th April 1922

A ceremony is held to open the library (the library includes 10 staff, and 15,451 books)

24th January 1923

Genzo Murai donates 500 yen for book purchases, as well as 1,459 books and 7 bookshelves (the Murai Library)

10th May 1934

Due to library reform, the Iwate Prefectural Library is designated as the Iwate-ken Chuo Toshokan (Iwate Prefecture Central Library)

August 1938

Hisato Kikuchi donates 1,500 books to the library (The Kikuchi Library)

May 1949

Sengaku Nitobe donates 5,000 books to the library (The Nitobe Library)

10th April 1951

Enactment of Regulations in Relation to Library Establishment, The Iwate Prefectural Library Regulations, and the Iwate Prefectural Library Conference Management Regulations

10th July 1952

The enactment of regulations guiding the establishment of regional branches of the Iwate Prefectural Library

15th September 1952

The establishment of branches of the Iwate Prefectural Library in Senmaya and Fukuoka

10th June 1953

Enactment of regulations in respect to the establishment of Prefectural Library Branch Reading Facilities in Kamaishi and Kuji

20th May 1954

Establishment of the Iwate Prefectural Library Society

1st May 1959

Prefectural Library reading facilities in Kamaishi and Kuji are incorporated as branch libraries within the Iwate Prefectural Library organisation
